GMA Network Inc. kept its television ratings lead in viewer-rich areas of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila in June, based on data by Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. Lopez-led ABS-CBN Corp. said separately that it was the leading TV network nationwide, using data from Kantar Media.
In its statement, GMA said that it cornered 35.3 percent of the total day household share in Urban Luzon against 33.5 percent by ABS-CBN and the 8.1-percent share of TV5.
In Mega Manila, GMA said it registered 37.1 percent, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 29.8 percent and TV5’s 8.7 percent, the statement showed.
ABS-CBN, for its part, said its TV ratings in June stood at 47 percent across the country, against GMA’s 32 percent.
ABS-CBN’s audience share increased by four percentage points month-on-month to 47 percent in June. It added that GMA’s audience share dropped four percentage points to 32 percent in June.
ABS-CBN added that its primetime block (which runs from 6 p.m. to midnight) strengthened as its average audience share increased to 52 percent in June. GMA’s primetime block was at 28 percent in June, it added.
The Lopez-led network said it continued its lead in key territories such as Balance Luzon (all areas in Luzon outside Mega Manila) where it got an average total day audience share of 48 percent against GMA’s 33 percent.
For Visayas, ABS-CBN claimed 57 percent against GMA’s 24 percent, and Mindanao with 58 percent against GMA’s 25 percent.
ABS-CBN noted that the primetime block matters because it is when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a bigger chunk of their spending. GMA noted that it leads in important markets like Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, representing 77 and 59 percent, respectively, of all urban TV households in the country.
