DAVAO CITY—Asian hotelier Dusit Thani International has picked the city for its full-service upscale residence project that will blend hotel-like amenities and the coziness of home.
Dusit Thani Residences Davao, which will rise in Barrio Pampanga here, would be the Bangkok-based resort and hotel company’s third luxury serviced apartment. The two others are the Dusit Thani Residences in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Dusit Thani and Filipino real estate developer Torre Lorenzo partnered for this P2-billion investment project that will offer 168 branded residences, which will cater to business and other long-staying luxury travelers.
“Tourism is the fastest growing industry and we badly needed quality hotels. We are very excited for this undertaking. Dusit Thani Davao is more than just another asset in our portfolio,” said Tomas Lorenzo, president of Torre Lozenzo.
Andrew Sparrow, chief executive officer of Blue Development Inc., development manager for the Dusit Thani project, said the Davao undertaking was the first private residences project to be built by any company outside Metro Manila.
All three private residences built so far by other companies were in the national capital, he said.
“There are only four such undertaking in the entire Philippines and the first ever outside of Manila,” Sparrow said.
Evelyn Singson of the Philippine Hoteliers Inc. said Dusit Thani made the right decision to invest in Davao City, touted as one of the safest cities in the world. Joselle R. Badilla, Inquirer Mindanao
