CONSTRUCTION and engineering firm Megawide Corp. has bagged a contract to build the first phase of DoubleDragon Properties Corp. (DD)’s 4.8-hectare mixed-use complex “Meridian Park” close to the Mall of Asia.

In a press statement, Megawide announced that it would construct the first phase of the project dubbed as DoubleDragon Plaza at the DD Meridian Park, envisioned as a landmark project at the corner of Macapagal Ave. and EDSA Extension in Pasay City, Metro Manila.

DoubleDragon Plaza will consist of four office towers that will cater primarily to the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry. Each office tower will have its own private lobby and will be built on top of a podium that will house a retail strip and three levels of parking including the basement.

The ground floor will house several retail shops, an al fresco dining area, a garden deck and a section carved out for various food outlets. Once the entire development is fully completed, DD Meridian Park will have over 280,000 square meters or 28 hectares of prime leasable space to add to DD’s portfolio.

“DoubleDragon Plaza will be built with world-class quality, and we are working towards completing this landmark project which we believe will remain relevant for generations,” Megawide chief executive officer Michael Cosiquien said in a press statement.

The project intends to obtain Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (“LEED”) certification for the development. The structure is designed to use low carbon emitting materials and will consume less energy compared to the average commercial building.

“We believe in the strong potential of the Bay Area given its proximity to the Manila airport and several Central Business Districts, plus the major new developments currently being built around it. We also believe that this specific location of the 4.8 hectare DD Meridian Park is one of the most valuable prime block of property in the Bay Area, and this is the kind of a property that gets more and more valuable as the years go by,” said DD chair Edgar Injap Sia II.

“We are pleased to have been chosen to construct such an environmentally-oriented project,” added Cosiquien. “Buildings account for a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions that affect climate change. Contributing to environmental sustainability through our industry is always very fulfilling.”

Megawide is a leading local engineering and construction firm with a specialized precast construction system, with the largest and most advanced plant in Southeast Asia. It has won numerous awards and citations including a Gold LEED certification for its own headquarters in Quezon City from the US Green Building Council.
