Alsons Consolidated Resources Inc. (ACR) is set to spend P43 million this year to strengthen community relations in areas where its power facilities stand.
ACR’s subsidiaries include Southern Philippines Power Corp. (SPPC) in Alabel, Sarangani Province; Western Mindanao Power Corp. (WMPC) and San Ramon Power Inc. (SRPI) in Zamboanga City; Sarangani Energy Corp. (SEC) in Maasim, Sarangani; and Mapalad Power Corp. (MPC) in Iligan City.
ACR said in a statement that the budget for corporate social responsibility activities would be based on the Department of Energy’s (DOE) directive, ER 1-94.
The DOE has ordered generation facilities to allot one centavo per kilowatt hour (P0.01 per kWh) of electricity sales to development projects in host and neighboring communities. For ACR, this translates to about P23 million in benefits for communities, while another P20 million will support internal CSR and the company’s projects in partnership with the Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation Inc.
The power business unit is also set to implement new programs focused on sustainability.
Highlights of the company’s environmental protection projects include the establishment of tree nurseries for bamboo and mangroves; artificial reef fabrication; and the river protection project. Riza T. Olchondra
