PITTSBURG, California – Ramar Foods for the first time in more than 40 years will change packaging material for its Magnolia Ice Cream® brand.
The company explained that changing to recyclable packaging is part of its “decade long mission to improve nationwide sustainability and to help protect the local California environment” where Magnolia Ice Cream is produced.
California became the first in the United States to pass a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags at grocery stores and convenience stores.
Magnolia’s new paper tubs will continue to hold “the same high quality” 1.5 quarts of Magnolia Ice Cream. However, the new tubs they will be easier to recycle and will spend less time in landfills across the country.
Ecologically responsible
Susie Quesada, president of Ramar Foods stated, “Our classic Magnolia Ice Cream package is iconic, when we created our new paper packaging, we improved the design to not only share our iconic ice cream with a wider market, but to also be ecologically responsible.”
She said further: “Our new packaging will help protect against plastic waste from the pastures where our California dairy is produced. As well as guard against plastic waterway waste in the Pacific Ocean, where we source our fruits from many family farms in the South Pacific.”
North America distribution
Magnolia’s classic ice cream is available at Asian and ethnic grocery stores across the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska, as well as throughout Canada in Vancouver and the Greater Toronto Area.
Tropical flavors include: Avocado, Azuki Red Bean, Buko, Buko Pandan, Buko Salad, Cashew-Langka, Green Tea, Guava, Halo Halo, Langka, Macapuno, Macapuno Ube, Mango, Mais Queso, Taro, Thai Tea, Turon, Lychee, Ube, and Ube & Beans.
Magnolia also produces a range of single serve novelty milkbars with the following flavors: Azuki Red Bean, Halo Halo, Purple Yam & Red Bean, Coconut, Thai Tea and Mango.
