Indian BPO Tech Mahindra expands operations in Cebu

CEBU CITY—An India-based information technology services provider has expanded its operations in Cebu.

Tech Mahindra, which is part of the large conglomerate Mahindra Group, opened a second facility at eBloc 3 inside the Cebu IT Park in Barangay Lahug with 500 seats for voice services.

Anand Achuthan, group delivery head for business services of Tech Mahindra, said 300 employees were currently in training.

He said at least least 800 employees will be employed by year end, aside from the part-time workers for seasonal jobs.

This is the second site of Tech Mahindra in Cebu. The first is in Jeza Building along General Maxilom Ave. in Cebu City, which was established in 2010.

The company has 400 seats, occupying the two and half floors of the building.

Achuthan said it took them five years to expand in Cebu because they were focused on their Manila expansions.

Tech Mahindra is part of the Mahindra Group in India which is engaged in various sectors and industries including retail shops, real estate, truck manufacturing and resorts.

It generated an income of $18 billion last year with $4.5 billion coming from their IT and BPO business including Tech Mahindra.

The company started operating in Manila in 2008 and had expanded to two sites with 3,000 seats.

In 2010, it established a site in Cebu and expanded five years later.

In Cebu, they cater to a large telecoms company, and firms in the retail, financial, and packaging industries.

Achuthan said Cebu was the better choice to expand because the city has “everything”, especially quality manpower.

He added they also had a very good experience in Cebu with their existing facility.

Tech Mahindra decided to put up another facility in eBloc 3 at Cebu IT Park because it could easily expand there.
