MANILA, Philippines–Property tycoon Andrew Tan has taken his flagship firm, Megaworld Corp., on an ambitious expansion program in growth centers in Central and Southern Luzon and expects to launch major projects in Mindanao over the medium term.
Tan said his firm’s focus would be on building new central business districts (CBDs) on Mactan island in Cebu, Davao City, Iloilo City and Bacolod City.
His remarks were made after Megaworld—one of the country’s largest real estate firms—bagged the “Overall Outstanding Developer Award for 2015” from the International Real Estate Federation. The award is also known as the Prix d’Excellence and is given annually by the prestigious France-based organization.
Tan was also named “Property Man of the Year” by the group during the 2015 Property and Real Estate Awards held Friday at the Marriott Hotel in Pasay City.
Aside from the highest awards, Megaworld was also named “Outstanding Developer for Office” and “Outstanding Developer for Townships/Mixed Use Communities.”
Real estate’s future
“We are also looking into establishing CBDs in other growth centers in Central and Southern Luzon as well as Mindanao within the next five years,” he told a gathering of foreign and local realtors at which he and his company were honored for their achievements.
“This is the future of the Philippine real estate industry,” Tan said.
“We build cities within cities. We establish CBDs from one city to another. We help businesses grow as they provide more jobs for more Filipinos. We help build people’s dreams for a better life in every community that we create.”
Megaworld is behind the McKinley Hill development in Bonifacio Global City.
The company is the largest builder of offices for the business process outsourcing industry in the country.
The company is listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange with a market capitalization of P171 billion and is part of the Alliance Global Inc. conglomerate whose interests include leisure, gaming, liquor and food.
