G-xchange Inc. (GXI), the mobile payments unit of Globe Telecom, said its customer base expanded by 25 percent to almost two million active users in 2014.
Globe said in a statement Friday that the company benefited from an expanding user base, which includes online shoppers, retailers and entrepreneurs.
“GCash’s innovative services have paved the way for more Filipinos to experience the convenience of mobile money. Whether for send money services such as bills payment or remittance, to using it to shop for goods and items online, GCash has become a driving force in the industry as it continues to cater to various market segments to serve different needs,” G-Xchange, Inc. president & CEO Xavier Marzan said in the statement.
From a regular remittance service in 2004, GCash has evolved into a total mobile money solution that carries a wide portfolio of payment options for its customers.
To keep the momentum, GCash continues to improve its portfolio of services and introduce services to extend its reach to a bigger segment of customers.
In 2014, GCash launched Globe Charge, a mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) service that has equipped over 1,500 entrepreneurs and SMEs to accept credit card payments.
GCash also ventured into collaborative partnerships with American Express and MasterCard in response to Filipinos’ rapid adoption to the online shopping trend, paving the way for the mobile money service to introduce the GCash American Express Virtual Pay.
With the GCash American Express Virtual Pay, customers can purchase digital goods and shop in international sites.
The account also has a personalized US address which customers can use as their shipping address for their goods to be delivered directly in their own homes.
The GCash American Express Virtual Pay is also directly linked to the GCash account.
Apart from online shopping, GCash has also maximized the exponential growth of financial cards as the preferred mode of payment.
GCash earlier introduced GCash MasterCard that is ideal for those who do not yet own a credit card or a debit card.
The GCash MasterCard is a reloadable prepaid card that one can use to swipe and pay, just like any other credit card.
Linked to one’s GCash account, it can be used to shop and pay across 33 million MasterCard-enabled establishments worldwide.
GCash is also playing an important role in socio-economic development with a 60-percent increase in customer base for its GCash Payroll segment. Miguel R. Camus
