SAN FRANCISCO — Filipino American entertainer Gab Valenciano is producing five “super selfie” videos for remittance giant Western Union, three of which also feature his musical artist dad, Gary Valenciano.

Gab Valenciano, who was featured in YouTube Rewind last year, created the hip, fun, zany dance-and-music videos for Western Union’s social media platforms, events, website and TV clips.

“Gab Valenciano mirrors the modern Filipino consumers – high tech, savvy with mobile apps for everything,” says Nidhi Gupta, WU senior marketing manager for the Americas, who is based in San Francisco.

“He and his father, Gary, are both global stars and loved by Filipinos. They’re a great fit for Western Union and our cross-generational outreach to Filipinos in the diaspora,” Nidhi explains.

“Plus they represent the bond between loved ones who may live across borders but still support each other. And that’s what Western Union’s money transfer service does–we help our customers support loved ones even though they may be far away, whether it is through our app, at our website, or from an agent location,” Nidhi adds.

Western Union “knows and trust Gab and so it gave him creative liberty” to conceptualize, produce and shoot the super selfies himself, Nidhi says.

The first two videos have been online since February and can be found by searching for #poweringpinoys. Western Union’s Gab super selfies will run through July.
