PLDT postpaid base up

MANILA, Philippines–Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., the country’s biggest telecommunications provider, said its mobile units cornered a leading share of the post-paid market in 2014.

In a statement, PLDT said that units Smart Communications and Sun Cellular saw postpaid subscribers grow 16 percent to more than 2.8 million,  or more than 387,000 in net additional subscribers for 2014. This represents 55 percent of the total Philippine mobile postpaid market, it said.

The postpaid segment also ended 2014 with P21.7 billion in revenue—a 14-percent or P2.6 billion increase from the level in the previous year.
Postpaid revenue now accounts for 21 percent of total cellular revenue of the PLDT wireless business.

“The gains posted by Smart and Sun in 2014 are attributed to PLDT’s integrated wireless network with unparalleled capacity, reach and resiliency, and premium-packed device and content offers,” Charles A. Lim, executive vice president and wireless consumer division head of Smart and Sun, said in the statement.

In 2014, Smart unveiled a fresh lineup of smartphone offerings for postpaid users, including flagship devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Sony Xperia Z1 and Z2, and iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

The unit also rolled out new  postpaid plans that came with power-packed entry-level handsets, data allowance, and access to unlimited music streaming via Spinnr.
