DIGOS CITY – The provincial government of Davao del Sur has ordered the closure of two concrete batching plants, the operators of which count government agencies, among others, as clients.
Davao del Sur Governor Claude Bautista said he issued the closure orders against Q Mix Concrete Industries, which operates in Hagonoy town and this city; and Philmix Concrete Industries in Barangay Tres de Mayo here due to a number of major violations.
Among the violations, Bautista said, were the companies’ failure to secure business permits, environmental compliance certificates, and air pollution permits from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Bautista said he did not care if these companies supply construction materials to various government infrastructure projects, including ones the provincial government implements.
Senior Supt. John Michael Dubria, Davao del Sur police director, said authorities had served the closure notices to the said companies.
“We will closely monitor their compliance with the closure order,” he said, adding that the provincial government was only protecting the health of the people living near the batching plants and the environment.
“These two companies are not allowed to operate and we will see to it that the governor’s order is complied with,” Dubria added.
Bautista said he believes the closure order would not impact the current projects the provincial government has been implementing – including roads and bridges – because there are other sources of materials aside from the two erring companies.
He also warned similar companies to comply with the requirements of the law because their failure would mean closure of operations.
