MANILA, Philippines–The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry has forged an agreement with the Hong Kong Trade Development Corp. (HKTDC) to jointly promote 16 export sectors that were deemed to hold the best business potential for both parties.

Under the memorandum of agreement signed in December 2014, the PCCI and HKTDC have expressed their intention “to cooperate in promoting increased bilateral commercial activity for the benefit of the Philippines and Hong Kong business communities, particularly the small and medium enterprises, and to strengthen economic partnership” between the two countries, said PCCI president Alfredo M. Yao.
Yao identified the priority sectors as housewares; furniture and furnishings; handicraft; decorative arts and crafts; gift and premium; fashion, garments and textiles; fashion and accessories; gems and jewelry; food, and intellectual property.
The other priority sectors were logistics; licensing; franchising; finance; film and television; and Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
This agreement formed part of PCCI’s focused advocacy for business growth and sustainable development.
These initiatives are aimed at providing business services for the advancement of grassroots entrepreneurship, chamber development, international trade relations, business innovation and excellence, and operating efficiency.
HKTDC, according to the PCCI, is a statutory body of the Hong Kong government that is tasked to create opportunities for Hong Kong companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises. It promotes trade in goods and services globally, and connects SMEs in Hong Kong with business partners internationally.–Amy R. Remo
