A Brown, Malaysia firm in search of infra deals

Property and power firm A Brown Company Inc. has teamed up with the local unit of Malaysian conglomerate AlloyMTD to scout for opportunities in infrastructure, particularly in the sectors of transportation, power and water.

In a statement, A Brown said it would expand its presence through a series of infrastructure projects meant to address worsening traffic conditions in key cities. To achieve this, it has formed a consortium that includes Private Equity Investment and Development Corp. (PEIDC) and Systra Philippines Inc., a member of the Systra Group of France.

The consortium members already have forged a memorandum of cooperation with MTD Philippines Inc. on Nov. 14 to pursue more infrastructure projects, A Brown said. The consortium of A Brown, PEIDC and Systra was represented by A Brown executive vice president Roel Castro while MTD was represented by its president Isaac David.

A Brown subsidiary Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC) operates the 135-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Concepcion, Iloilo, while unit Peakpower Energy Inc. has two bunker-fired peaking power plants.

AlloyMTD Malaysia operates in Saudi Arabia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, India, Thailand and China. In the Philippines, MTD has completed the construction of the 36-kilometer South Luzon Expressway, as well as Phase 1 of the P2.5-billion Calabarzon (Calamba, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) Regional Government Center.
