Cebu Pacific Air is seeking to impose a fuel surcharge on three of its international routes, specifically those serving Japan and Taiwan, a filing with the Civil Aeronautics Board showed.
Cebu Pacific, a unit of Gokongwei-led JG Summit Holdings, is seeking the nod of regulators to impose the surcharge on its Cebu to Narita flight amounting to $71; Manila to Fukuoka, $48, and Cebu to Taipei, amounting to $34.
The fuel surcharge forms part of the ticket price. This means an increase in the fuel surcharge would translate to higher fares.
The measure is a tool granted by the government to help airlines recover part of their fuel expenses.
CAB said Cebu Pacific’s petition hearing was set on Nov. 13.
Two other domestic carriers were also seeking a fuel surcharge for certain routes.
Tiger Airways Philippines, a subsidiary of Cebu Pacific, sought the CAB’s approval to impose a P500 fuel surcharge for its Manila to Butuan flights. The petition would be heard on Nov. 11, the CAB said.
AirAsia Zest, meanwhile, seeks to impose the fuel surcharge on flights from Cebu to Davao, amounting to P300; Cebu to Cagayan de Oro, P300, and Kalibo to Davao, P400.
