FedEx Express marks 30 years of operations in the Philippines

THIS year, FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. and the world’s largest express transportation company, is celebrating 30 years in the Philippines.

FedEx has maintained a long-term investment and community outreach commitment to the country since local operations were launched in 1984.

Recent developments that highlight this commitment include:

The inauguration of new gateway and clearance facilities in Manila and Cebu worth a combined P500 million.

Equipped with state-of-the-art sort systems that can process an additional 1,500 to 3,000 packages per hour, the facilities now have the capacity to handle a larger volume of inbound and outbound shipments;

Creation of more than 700 new jobs within FedEx Philippines and corporate affiliates in the country.

Retail network expansion through an alliance with 2GO Express and its affiliates.

Customers can now send packages through the widest network of shipping outlets with FedEx Authorized Ship Centers (FASC’s) in 313 strategically located 2GO Express and USSC outlets nationwide.

Equally committed to supporting communities where its employees live and work, FedEx conducts strong outreach programs with organizations like Orbis, Safe Kids Philippines (SKP) and Junior Achievement Philippines (JAPI). The collaborative efforts raise awareness about social issues in the areas of health, youth welfare, and education through the following initiatives:

Orbis Flying Eye Hospital (FEH)—FedEx is the leading aviation sponsor of Orbis, an international NGO that works to eliminate avoidable blindness worldwide. Orbis operates the FEH, a fully-equipped mobile teaching hospital housed within a DC-10 aircraft. Onboard the FEH and in local hospitals, Orbis provides hands-on training to local eye health professionals to address the leading causes of visual impairment in their communities. Since 1984, 13 FEH programs have been conducted in the Philippines.

Walk this Way—An advocacy program conducted by Safe Kids Philippines to raise pedestrian safety awareness for the 500,000 Filipino children who walk to school daily.

The FedEx/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge—A business program that fosters entrepreneurship among high school students in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
