Galaxy Macau casino opens to lucrative market
MACAU – The multibillion-dollar Galaxy Macau casino resort complex is opening its doors in the world’s most lucrative gambling market.
Sunday’s launch of the Galaxy Entertainment Group’s $1.9 billion casino comes as Macau aims to draw more than just the high-rolling mainland Chinese that have helped it overtake Las Vegas as the world’s top casino market.
The casino is the only one scheduled to open in the southern Chinese city this year. It will have room for up to 600 gambling tables and 1,500 slot machines.
Three hotels will have more than 2,200 rooms while a 40,000 square-foot (4,000 square-meter) wave pool will generate waves splashing onto an artificial sandy beach.
It’s the 34th casino to open in Macau, the only place in China where gambling is legal.
