MANILA, Philippines — The supply and price of chicken will normalize by September to October, an agriculture official told lawmakers on Wednesday.
During the budget briefing of the Department of Agriculture at the House of Representatives, Undersecretary Jose Reaño said the supply will normalize after 45 days.
He said the prices of the chicken stock spiked because retailers buy from other stores and sell it at a higher price.
Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala added that the supply was tight due to delayed deliveries in the aftermath of Typhoon “Glenda” (international name: Rammasun).
The supply to the Greater Manila Area was disrupted because of the damages in Region III which supplies the chicken, Reano added.
The issue over the shortage of Jollibee’s “Chickenjoy” was also raised but Alcala said this was supposedly due to a glitch in the food chain’s system and not due to shortage.
