Jollibee vows to restore joy to chicken

MANILA, Philippines – A “major systems upgrade” and not supply was the reason why a number of stores of a popular food chain started operating on a limited menu.

“We would like to clarify that this is NOT a supply issue or a chicken shortage situation,” said Jollibee VP for Marketing Harvey Ong.

Ong said the limited operation was “due to a major systems upgrade,” which affected delivery of raw materials from its commissary to select Jollibee stores in Metro Manila and nearby cities.

“In fact, some of these [affected] stores have already begun offering these Jollibee favorites again,” he said, referring to products including Chickenjoy, Jolly Spaghetti, and Yumburgers.

Ong is sending apologies for the temporary inconvenience, but also extended his gratitude to customers for bearing with the team.

Jollibee customers took to social media Thursday to whine over the leading Asian restaurant chain’s supply shortage in its stores. Soon after, #ChickenSad, a spoof of Chickenjoy, became a trending hashtag.

Feathers flew in cyberspace as Kentucky Fried Chicken joined the poultry war, taking a funny jab at Jollibee’s #ChickenSad plight.

“No such thing as #ChickenSad in the house of #SoGood,” tweets @KFCPhilippines, the American fastfood chain famous for its “Finger lickin’ good” ad slogan.
