Mitsubishi posted record sales in June

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC) posted record high vehicle sales in June with a total of 4,535 units sold during the month, boosted mainly by the strong performance of the passenger car segment.

In a statement, MMPC said sales of passenger cars grew year-on-year by 19.6 percent to 1,133 units in June, while sales of light commercial vehicles rose modestly by 8.8 percent.

“The sustained sales growth of MMPC can be credited to several factors including its extensive product lineup providing the market a variety of models to choose from,” MMPC said.

“The stable Philippine economy and increasing investments in the country were also contributory factors to the growth,” it added.

Its record sales in June brought the company’s cumulative sales to 25,066 units in the first half of the year, up 17.8 percent from the 21,282 units sold during the same period last year.

This gave the company a 23-percent share of the local automotive industry.

MMPC remained confident that its vehicle sales would grow steadily throughout the remaining months of the year.

“Given our remarkable and on-track performance for the first semester, it is definite that we will surpass last year’s total sales of 43,176 units.  Our goal is to sell more than 50,000 units this year in order to keep at least 20 percent market share,” noted MMPC vice president for marketing services Froilan Dytianquin.

MMPC is preparing for the transfer of its manufacturing operations to the former plant of Ford Philippines in Laguna, from its current facility in Cainta, Rizal, where it is producing some 15,000 units of the L300 and Adventure models.

The Laguna facility can produce some 50,000 units, MMPC president and CEO Hikosaburo Shibata earlier said.
