Kids channel boosts reach

MANILA, Philippines—Kids cable channel Cartoon Network aims to reach more Filipino children this year by expanding its brand presence outside of television.

In a briefing in Makati on Thursday, the international entertainment giant said it would “animate the lives” of Filipino kids with brand-new shows, toy and accessory lines, home video releases and new Internet services.

Con Apostolopoulos, Asia-Pacific director for sponsorship and promotions of Cartoon Network’s parent firm Turner Broadcasting System Inc., said that the company aims to diversify its business, taking advantage of the popularity of its programs in the country.

The new products, which range from toys and clothes to cartoon-related ice cream flavors, will revolve around Cartoon Network’s hit shows such as Ben 10, Powerpuff Girls and Chowder.

Apostolopoulos said these new products and services would complement the rich content that Cartoon Network delivers through its shows.

Aside from having a dedicated cable channel, Cartoon Network shows are also aired on a daily branded block on free-to-air channel TV5.

Apostolopoulos said the network would also enhance its website to offer more interactive services to its customers, including games and downloadable content.

“Pinoy kids are becoming increasingly digital-savvy and over 470,000 unique users enjoy our website every month,” the official said.

“The number of registered users of CartoonNetwork.com.ph is ranked second among all Asia-Pacific countries, and gaming is the most popular activity on our website,” he added.
