Share prices close higher

The local stock index on Thursday climbed for the second straight session—closer to the 6,000 barrier—as it tracked another upbeat session on Wall Street.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index added 24.12 points, or 0.4 percent, to close at 5,982.24.

The index hit an intraday high of 5,999.58.

The day’s top performer was the industrial counter (+1 percent). The financial, holding firms and services sub-indices likewise gained. On the other hand, the mining/oil and property counters ended in negative territory.

Value turnover amounted to P5.54 billion. There were 93 advancers against 61 decliners, while 45 stocks were unchanged.

The PSEi stocks that gained on heavy volume were LTG (+4.74 percent) and Metrobank (+2.43 percent). AC, SMIC, GTCAP and JGS all gained by over 1 percent.  Doris C. Dumlao
