Leading wireless services provider Smart Communications Inc. recently supported the Cebu and Manila leg of the Social Innovation (SI) Camp for Health 2013, promoting the use of Internet and mobile technologies to assist in the timely delivery of health services in the country.

Organized by ACCESS Health International, DOST-ICTO, CeBuinIT and ASSIST Asia, SI Camp for Health is a search for ideas that have the potential to resolve existing problems of the country’s healthcare industry. These include issues on maternal and child health, tuberculosis, dengue, HIV/AIDS, elderly care, health in disaster or persons-with-disability healthcare.  From all the entries received, six teams with promising ideas were selected:  PinoyRx, Medifund, Aquabuddy, NARSS, MEDIC and Sankalusugan.

After the top entries were identified, an SI Camp Weekend was conducted, bringing together developers, designers, social problem experts, business advisers and marketing experts to collectively build Web and mobile solutions for health. The two-day workshop provided the six teams with direct interaction and mentoring by industry experts to equip them with the necessary skills and techniques in developing their respective working prototypes.
