Megaworld provides relief
Megaworld Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of leading property developer Megaworld Corp., has turned over P5 million to the Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the largest association of businessmen in the country.
The funds are earmarked for the distribution of relief goods and the construction of temporary housing facilities for Typhoon Yolanda survivors in Ormoc City, Tacloban City, Palo and Baybay, all in Leyte; Kalibo, Aklan; Iloilo City and Calbayog, Samar.
This donation is part of the P100 million commitment of Megaworld’s parent firm, the Andrew Tan-led Alliance Global Group Inc., to be channeled through several charities for the relief and rehabilitation efforts in the Visayas region.
CBTL switches to HGD lights
The switch to High Gas Discharge (HGD) lighting has already begun to pay off for restaurant chain The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (CBTL), the first company in the Philippines to embrace the new illumination technology pioneered in Taiwan and is now spreading throughout Asia and Europe.
According to CBTL president Walden Chu, HGD has lowered his company’s energy consumption by as much as 60 percent in the six months that they have begun using it in their warehouse.
