MANILA, Philippines—In the wake of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” and the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that hit the Visayas recently, an understanding of green, sustainable building practices for better disaster preparedness is now recommended in rebuilding local infrastructure.
The SB13 Manila Conference is bringing together 250 participants from the fields of engineering, architecture and those who are interested in green and sustainable building on Nov. 25-27 at the Eastwood Richmonde Hotel Grand Ballroom in Quezon City.
With the theme “Sustainable Buildings, Infrastructures and Communities in Emerging Economies,” SB13 Manila’s primary goal is to inspire, mobilize and build capacities of professionals and stakeholders toward disaster risk management and a more sustainable built environment.
SB13 Manila is part of a worldwide series of conferences discussing different aspects of sustainable building. The Manila leg is organized by the University of the Philippines Diliman, Mapua Institute of Technology and Confederation of Filipino Consulting Organizations of the Philippines.
Key topics that will be discussed are sustainable buildings infrastructures and communities, energy efficiency and new sources of energy, water efficiency and management, materials and resources, disaster risk management and business continuity planning, and governance and regulation.
Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson is the keynote speaker. Also invited are prominent international and local experts in the fields of sustainable architecture and engineering. Others that will be in attendance are representatives from top multinational design, consulting and construction firms in the country.
