Frederick Dy is new chair of St. Luke’s

Robert F. Kuan has announced the election of Frederick Y. Dy to succeed him as chair of the board of both St. Luke’s Medical Center-Quezon City and St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City.

Dy has been vice chair of St. Luke’s since 1996, and was the last recruit of the late founding chair and president William H. Quasha. He is also chair of the board and majority stockholder of Security Bank Corporation.

St. Luke’s president and CEO Joe Ledesma said Kuan has led St. Luke’s for the last 15 years with dedicated and visionary leadership, and together with the whole board conceptualized and made possible the establishment of the state-of-the-art St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City in Taguig.

Kuan, who remains as a member of the board, said that he had accomplished all of his goals in guiding St. Luke’s to become one of the best medical institutions in the world, especially with the completion and successful opening of the ultra-modern St. Luke’s Global City. Thus, he said that he enthusiastically endorsed to the board that it was time for Dy to succeed him.

Kuan, who was the founder of Chowking, has also become extremely busy with Rotary, since he was elected last year to become District Governor of Rotary International District 3830 for the Rotary Year 2013-2014.

St. Luke’s Quezon City is a non-stock, non-profit corporation, while St. Luke’s Global City is a non-profit corporation wholly owned by St. Luke’s Quezon City. All the members of the board of both corporations volunteer their time and resources pro-bono.

The other regular members of the board are Alonzo Q. Ancheta (corporate secretary), Lenora A. Cabili, Mauricio G. Domogan, Winfred Y. Huang, Bun Chin Hwang, Manuel C. Lumpias (treasurer), Nilo B. Pena, Rafael B. Rodriguez, Juan B. Santos, Tony Tan Caktiong, David Yu Tai Pit and Manuel B. Zamora Jr. (vice chair).
