The Filinvest group has chosen the contractors for its P30-billion, 405-megawatt coal power plant in Mindanao.
In a statement, Filinvest said FDC Misamis Power Corp. (FDC Misamis) awarded the engineering and procurement contract to First Northeast Electric Power Engineering Co. of China (NEPC China). FDC Misamis is a subsidiary of FDC Utilities Inc., the power and water utilities arm of the Filinvest Group.
Filinvest said groundbreaking was set for early November and commercial operations might start in early 2016.
The facility will use the latest in clean fuel technology, the circulating fluidized bed boiler technology. Filinvest said this was consistent with the firm’s drive for enhanced environmental management.
“We at FDC Misamis, are committed to environmentally sound projects. We call for balanced development—we must continue to care for our environment but not to the detriment of our economic and technological advancement,” FDC Misamis president Jesus N. Alcordo said.
The construction contract for the power plant went to NEPC Power Construction Corp. (NEPC Philippines), which tapped Engineering Equipment Inc. (EEI) for the civil, electrical and mechanical works. Alstom, a global leader in the world of power generation, was tapped to supply the steam turbine and generator. The circulating fluidized bed boilers and auxiliaries shall be provided by Shanghai Electric Group Co. Ltd., a boiler manufacturer based in China.
