Power transmission company prepares for Typhoon ‘Santi’

MANILA, Philippines – The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said Friday it has taken measures to minimize the impact of any damage Typhoon “Santi” may cause on the country’s power transmission lines.

Apart from ensuring the reliability and integrity of its communication equipment, NGCP said it has stocked up on hardware materials and other supplies needed to repair damaged facilities as well as positioned work crews in strategic places for quicker deployment t9o locate and repair  damaged facilities, such as fallen transmission lines and towers.

NGCP said in a statement that all of these measures, called for by the company’s Integrated Disaster Action Plan, were in place to facilitate immediate restoration work where needed.

Unless it veers from its current course, Typhoon Santi was expected to make landfall over the Aurora-Isabela early Saturday.

NGCP said its Overall Disaster Command Center would monitor all power restoration activities, reports, and updates from the Regional Command Centers in North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, whichever is directly affected by any weather disturbance.
