MANILA, Philippines–The Department of Finance confirmed on Tuesday reports that Insurance Commissioner Emmanuel Dooc has tendered his resignation. But his boss, Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima, said he does not want Dooc to leave.
Dooc has tendered his resignation, which is said to be effective Wednesday, to give way to the supposed appointment of an insurance commissioner who will have a fixed term of six years under the new Insurance Code, which is expected to be signed by President Aquino III soon, Purisima said.
“It is a courtesy resignation coming from a gentleman with delicadeza. He did not want to presume that he will be the one nominated to the position which has a fixed term of six years under the new Insurance Code,” Purisima said.
He said he would renominate Dooc once the new Insurance Code is signed by the President.
“I am happy with his [Dooc’s] performance. He is solid and very competent. I intend to renominate him once the Insurance Code is signed into law,” Purisima said.
