Petron launches Euro 4-compliant gas

Petron Corp. recently launched the country’s first Euro 4 compliant premium gasoline, the Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4.

Euro 4 is a globally accepted European emission standard for vehicles that requires the use of fuel with significantly low sulfur (0.005 percent or 50 parts per million) and benzene (maximum of 1 percent by volume) contents. The current standard for gasoline in the country allows up to 0.05 percent sulfur or 500 parts per million and up to 2 percent benzene.

The company’s new Euro 4 premium plus gasoline was launched two and a half years ahead of the government-mandated schedule of compliance with this global fuel standard by 2016.

Under a directive of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, which is meant to curb air pollution in Metro Manila, vehicles must comply with Euro 4 emission standards starting Jan. 1, 2016. The directive also meant there must be available Euro 4 fuel for motorists.

“As the market leader in the local oil sector, it is our responsibility to be at the forefront of producing more environment-friendly fuels,” Petron chairman and chief executive officer Ramon S. Ang said.

The company said Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4 would be initially available in 24 service stations in Luzon, particularly in Metro Manila and surrounding suburbs. Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4 will be made available in the Visayas and Mindanao in the coming months, the oil firm said.

Petron said this underscores the company’s commitment to launch fuel products relevant to consumers and unleashes the full potential of high performance vehicles while reducing its environmental footprint.

The company said the new Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4 was specially formulated to meet the globally accepted European emission standard for vehicles.
