Maynilad Water Services Inc., a joint venture between Metro Pacific Investments Corp. and DMCI Holdings Inc., will start this month the construction of a P190-million concrete water reservoir in Novaliches, Quezon City, which is expected to be completed by April 2014.
The concessionaire of Greater Manila Area’s west zone—including some part of Cavite province—said in a statement that the new dam would help increase water pressure and ensure 24-hour water supply availability in elevated areas of North Caloocan.
The dam is designed to hold 10 million liters of water, enough to meet the supply needs of some 555,000 Maynilad customers.
The areas that stand to benefit from this project include Sacred Heart Village, De la Costa Homes Village, Midway Park, Capitol Parkland Subdivision, Mira Monte Heights, Tala Subdivision, Samara Village, Central Luzon Leprosarium, Victoria Wave Economic Zones, NHS Tala Subdivision, Cefels Park Subdivision, Soldiers Hills, Victory Heights Subdivision, Guadanoville Subdivision, Mountain Heights, Bankers Village, Pangarap, Adeline Homes and Sto. Nino Village—all in Northern Caloocan.
“In the last five years since the first quarter of 2008, we have spent over P35.95 billion to improve and expand our infrastructure network,” Maynilad chief executive and president Ricky Vargas said in the statement.
“As a result, about 96.7 percent of our customers now have 24-hour water supply,” Vargas said. “We will continue to invest in our network to ensure that safe and reliable water is available to all our customers.”
The project adds to two bolted reservoirs that Maynilad commissioned last year to be built in Caloocan City at a cost of P48 million.
These facilities—which, together, can store 7 million liters of water—provide more than 53,700 residents with 24-hour water supply at a pressure of at least 16 pounds per square inch.
Also, Maynilad announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with two Nepalese entities—Department of Water Supply and Sewerage and the Lekhnath Small Town Water Supply and Sanitation User Committee.
Under the agreement, Maynilad will provide the Nepalese with technical support on water supply operation, water quality testing, non-revenue water and water system improvement.
