McCafe rolls out new smoothie

OAKBROOK, Illinois–McDonald’s is introducing a new McCafé refreshment called Blueberry Pomegranate Smoothie at all participating restaurants.  The new McCafé offering is part of McDonald’s efforts to tweak its menu towards “relevant, great-tasting food and beverages choices. “

McCafé Blueberry Pomegranate Smoothie is freshly prepared for each customer. It is made with blueberries, raspberries, a splash of pomegranate juice and other juices and blended with low-fat yogurt and ice. It combines the tartness of pomegranate juice with the sweetness of blueberries and raspberries.

Starting at 220 calories for a small size, the new smoothie offers choices from some of the USDA’s MyPlate recommended food groups, such as dairy and fruit. Blueberry Pomegranate Smoothie is the newest addition to the McCafé Smoothie line which includes Strawberry Banana and Mango Pineapple.

“Since introducing McCafé four years ago, we have continued to expand our offerings with new, great-tasting beverages and desserts for any occasion,” said Marta Fearon, Marketing Director, McDonald’s USA. “So, if customers are looking for something fruity and refreshing, then Blueberry Pomegranate is a great choice.”

The McCafé summer line-up also features returning favorites Cherry Berry Chiller and Frozen Strawberry Lemonade, available for a limited time only. These seasonal offerings will join the menu of permanent blended ice beverages, which also includes McCafé Strawberry Banana and Mango Pineapple Smoothies, as well as McCafé Mocha, Caramel and Chocolate Chip Frappé.
