State-run National Power Corp. (Napocor) has forged power supply agreements (PSAs) with 39 electric cooperatives, ensuring the continued and stable supply of electricity in remote areas.

In a statement posted on its website, Napocor said it signed earlier this month agreements with members of the Association of Isolated Electric Cooperatives Inc., which are customers of the Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG), the missionary electrification arm of Napocor.

The power supply agreements are crucial in seeking Congressional approval of the SPUG budget and in the filing of petitions to adjust the Universal Charge for Missionary Electrification (UCME).

Recently, the Energy Regulatory Commission allowed Napocor to increase the UCME collected from all power consumers connected to the main grids to 11.63 centavos per kWh from the previous 4.54 centavos per kWh.

Among those that signed PSAs with Napocor are Aurora Electric Cooperative Inc.; Batanes Electric Cooperative Inc.; Romblon Electric Cooperative Inc.; Busuanga Island Electric Cooperative Inc.; Lubang Electric Cooperative Inc.; Quezon II Electric Cooperative Inc.; Iloilo III Electric Cooperative Inc.; Antique Electric Cooperative Inc.; and Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative Inc.
