UCPB Gen turns 50

MANILA, Philippines—Fifty years of success.

UCPB General Insurance Co. Inc., a leading nonlife insurance group, recently marked its 50th anniversary at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-La hotel with its officers and employees, brokers and agents, and even former employees taking part in the celebration.

Top executives led by UCPB Gen president Isabelo Africa, chairman Juan Andres Bautista, and managing director Alfredo Tumacder Jr. led the celebration which commemorated two key milestones of the company: reaching its highest net income and breaching the P2-billion mark in insurance premiums in 2012.

First established as Allied Guarantee Insurance Co. in January 1963, the firm was acquired by Cocolife in 1989 and renamed UCPB Gen. Since then, it has grown by leaps and bounds to become one of the biggest performers in the insurance industry, making it the first nonlife insurance company in the Philippines to be given an ISO 9001:2008 certification.

The company provides complete solutions for personal and commercial insurance needs and offers a variety of insurance products including those for motorcars, homeowners, travel, and personal accidents.

“There is so much to celebrate in our 50 years in the nonlife insurance business,” said Bautista. “For most companies, this anniversary already means the end of an era, but for us in UCPB Gen, 50 years is just the beginning of something greater and more exciting. We have so much to look forward to, and I would like to thank our employees for being with us all these years,”

The gala evening marked the company’s journey toward customer service excellence, as reiterated by its new tagline, “Every day starts with Ü.” Brokers and agents were also awarded for their contribution in reaching the P2-billion mark in insurance premiums.

In her remarks, Vida Chiong, deputy commissioner of the Insurance Commission, pointed out that UCPB Gen is already in full compliance with the commission’s requirements in the coming years. “This is a milestone that only a few companies can be proud about. May you continue being a company to trust, not just by your clients, but by your employees as well,” she said.

Africa declared the company’s continuing commitment to growth and excellence: “UCPB Gen has always been known to transform challenges into opportunities. We always strive to be the best that we can be, by being passionate to serve our clients and partners… We will continue to do just that as we move forward and dream bigger dreams. Expect better systems and only the best in customer service from us now and in the coming years.”
