Did you know that Chevrolet first used its “Bowtie emblem” logo in 1913 designed from wallpaper its founder once saw in a French hotel?
Did you also know that a 1951 Chevrolet Styleline DeLuxe Convertible, formerly owned by ‘King of Cool’ Steve McQueen, will be auctioned off in March?
More than a hundred years of company history provides not just tons of interesting trivia but stories of Chevrolet ownership from all around the globe. From the Series C Classic Six of the early 1900s, to the Corvettes, to the Corvair of the 1960s and the present day plug-in electric car Volt, the bowtie brand has been at the forefront of a campaign.
Chevy now has a strong lineup of vehicles ranging from its subcompact Sonic, to its big Suburban and high-performance Camaro. This specific brand has so many stories to tell.
One of them is Paul Soriano, an award-winning TV commercial and film director who has always regarded himself as an SUV guy.
“I feel safe and secure. Its high seating position and strong presence are most appreciated when driving in bad weather conditions. I feel in control when driving,” said Soriano who drives a 2010 Chevy Captiva.
‘Love affair’
Soriano, who won the Bronze Palm Award for excellence in filmmaking at the 2012 Mexico International Film Festival, said he used to own a sedan and his “love affair” with the Chevy began quite accidentally three years ago.
“I was in the market for one and it was simply perfect timing that I got to meet the Chevy people when I directed a TV commercial for Chevy Cruze in 2010,” he related.
After learning of his intent to buy an SUV, the Chevy guys decided to lend him a Captiva for a week to really gauge the vehicle.
“I was sold after that, and it’s the SUV model I’ve been driving ever since,” said Soriano.
He lauded the Captiva for fuel economy. “When it comes to fuel efficiency, and driving around in the Captiva, it couldn’t be more spacious. In every production (event) I constantly carry a lot of equipment such as lights, cameras and other rigs. The space in the Captiva has always accommodated my production gear not to mention my golf set, which fits in just as well.”
He also added that everytime he goes out of town to play golf and take a day off from his hectic schedule, he always enjoys taking the Captiva for a good spin.
So would Soriano recommend a Chevrolet to others? “Definitely, the Chevy brand should be reason enough. Chevy knows how to build cars and of course all their vehicles look great on the road, so I rank them high up there.”
But one of the things he admires most about the Chevy is the fact that it has an effective after-sales service.
“Their team takes care of you months after you’ve purchased the vehicle. I’ve been driving my Captiva for the last two and a half years and honestly I haven’t encountered any major problems at all,” he attested.
Well-known chef
A well-known chef who mans the Highlands Steakhouse kitchen drives to and from his work with a Chevrolet Cruze.
And Chef Rene is so impressed with his first-ever Chevrolet car that he’s already recommending it to his friends. He is so happy with the car’s performance, he’s looking at buying another one soon.
With a sedan designed for people who want upgraded features and driving convenience, it’s no wonder Chef Rene looks forward to his family’s weekend getaways.
“I love how beautiful the car looks inside and outside. It leaves other car models in the dust. I believe it’s also more fuel-efficient than the last car I used,” said Chef Rene, who has been with Tagaytay Highlands for five years now.
It was in Miami where Chef Rene first got to try to drive a Chevy, when he rented a car to drive around. Since then, his appreciation for the brand never stopped growing.
As a chef, this proud Chevy car owner has traveled the world. Specializing in international cuisine, he has been in the United States, Europe, and Chile, among other countries. Though he originally came from Samar, he now resides in Tagaytay with his wife and two kids.
“I’m really happy with how smooth driving is with Chevy cars. It feels so light. I have my eye on the Chevy Camaro,” he said.
