Bayan 2012 revenue up 8% to P5.2B

MANILA, Philippines—Lopez-led Bayan Telecommunications Inc. reported strong revenue growth for 2012 on the back of its growing broadband Internet business.

In a statement, Bayan said it posted P5.22 billion in core revenue in 2012, 8 percent higher than the 2011 level.

Bayan attributed the growth to the strong performance of its data and voice services.

Data service revenue grew by 11 percent to P3.56 billion from year-ago level, driven by the increasing demand for data connectivity and Internet connection.

Digital subscriber line, or DSL, revenue grew by 13 percent year on year to P1.7 billion in 2012 due to the increased usage of social media application and the adoption of Internet for education purposes.

Bayan’s DSL subscribers increased by 12 percent year on year to 132,000 subscribers.

Bayan’s voice revenue from its 184,000 subscriber base reached P1.61 billion in 2012, up by 4 percent from year-before level.

“Last year was a banner year for us because all of our market groups posted growth,” the company said in a statement.

Bayan’s business segment grew by 11 percent to P2.44 billion on a year-on-year basis due primarily to a combination of continuing demand for data connectivity and the success of Business Made Personal, Bayan’s branding for its topnotch quality of accounts management.

Bayan’s consumer segment, on the other hand, grew by 6 percent to P2.19 billion, with growth coming from increased demand for DSL broadband and bundled packages.
