Opportunities abound for logistics investors in PH
MANILA, Philippines–Despite the global economic slowdown and volatile market conditions, economists are bullish on the prospects of the Philippine economy in 2013. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas expects the national gross domestic product to hit the higher bracket of the official growth target of 6 to 7 percent this year.
The bright outlook comes after the Philippines’ remarkable performance last year, when the economy expanded by 6.5 percent in the first three quarters year-over-year to log one of the fastest growth rates in Asia for the period.
This year’s projected rapid expansion is seen to get a big push from various fronts, including strong household and government spending, rising private sector investments, a tourism and real estate boom as well as a strong rebound in the agricultural, manufacturing, and services sectors.
The forwarding and logistics community in particular is poised to gain from a revitalized Philippine economy.
This February, leading government and private sector officials will give in-depth discussions on how the shipping and logistics industries can ride the “unprecedented growth momentum” of the Philippine economy.
They will speak at the PortCalls Cargo Economics Conference 2013, to be held February 7 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Manila Diamond Hotel.
