Philips pledges more support for WWF

Philips Electronics and Lightings Inc. has committed to provide this year additional support for the sustainability and conservation programs of World Wide Fund for Nature, starting with the turnover of 150 solar-powered lamps to the group.

In a statement, WWF Philippines explained that these energy-efficient solar lamps will be used for its project sites, research facilities and partner rural communities that are susceptible to power interruptions.

“Since it is our company’s objective to improve overall the health and well-being of communities, we intend to equip and educate Filipinos with simple yet integral steps to help them use energy more efficiently while enjoying an ideal quality of life,” said Philips country manager Fabia Tetterroo-Bueno.

WWF-Philippines and Philips have been partners for two years in implementing the Bright Kids program, which has educated thousands of public elementary students about energy efficiency and conservation.

Philips decided, however, to take its commitment to protect the environment a step further this year by supporting Earth Hour and its accompanying climate change adaptation program, Beyond the Hour.

For 2013, lights are set to go out on the evening of March 23, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., as millions of Filipinos are expected to participate in the Earth Hour campaign, a self-imposed 60-minute blackout now deemed to be the largest call for action on climate change globally.—Amy R. Remo
