In my recent visit to Puerto Princesa, it was wonderful to see that Ka Lui did not only survive the pandemic but is wonderfully thriving.
Ka Lui has been an old favorite for visitors to the gorgeous province. However, it seemed to be missing for a while. It is now bigger and is also a kind of art gallery.
Make sure, though, that you have clean feet and a pedicure if you go because one unique feature of the restaurant is that you are required to take off your shoes! You will put the shoes in a cubby hole. Amazingly, even if all are required to take off their shoes, the place does not smell like feet at all!!

The restaurant is simply made of bamboo walls but it is airy and has a garden in the middle. In its different sections there are works of art that you can purchase. There is also a mini bookstore near the loo.
The loo is in itself a conversation piece. It is a parlor with a sala set and is very “Instagrammable.”
The food is excellent. Make sure to try the curry eel and the baby lobsters that are reminiscent of slipper lobsters. They also have a good tuna salad and something resembling binukadkad na plapla.
