New York group cites PH progress in mining management, legislation

SC to hold oral arguments on petitions vs 1995 mining law on April 16

The Supreme Court on Tuesday stopped the Bureau of Internal Revenue, the Department of Finance and the Securities and Exchange Commission from requiring firms to disclose an alphabetical list (alphalist) of investors who receive income payments and dividends, a regulation that has stirred concerns of capital flight and its crippling effects on the economy. The Supreme Court will hold oral arguments on the petition challenging the Philippine Mining Act of 1995 when it goes to its annual summer session in Baguio City on April 16.

Inc.—a trading firm tagged in a P244-million “double-your-money” scam in Pagadian City and other parts of the Visayas and Mindanao—has been given fresh clearance to operate.
