Cupcakes bring sweet success to Dagupan entrepreneur

Community arcades are beginning to flourish as alternative shopping and entertainment venues in this coastal city, despite the presence of hometown malls and a mall chain branch in a neighboring town.

In Pangasinan’s major commercial center, homegrown bakeries and pastry shops have been surviving amid competition from commercial chains by relying on their loyal clients and unique products developed by their families.

No one doubts that this Pangasinan city produces the best tasting bangus (milkfish) in the country. But unknown to many, Dagupan is fast becoming a major producer of the expensive fish, lapu-lapu (grouper).

Bangus (milkfish) produced in this city and some Pangasinan towns will finally get a “brand” after concerned agencies committed their participation in the bangus branding program of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

This city is known for its three Bs—bangus (milkfish), bagoong (fish paste) and bocayo (grated coconut candy). But it has more to offer as local officials here explore other food items and discuss plans to promote them under the label “Dagupan’s Best Products.”
