SMALL banana growers in the Davao del Norte and Compostela Valley provinces are asking for government assistance after their farms were severely damaged in the wake of a supertyphoon.
The Philippines, the world’s third largest exporter of bananas, lost a quarter of its crop in Typhoon “Pablo,” an industry group said Thursday, adding that it has also likely spread a destructive pest.
President Benigno Aquino on Monday told banana exporters reeling from the stringent rules imposed on their product by China not to put all their eggs in one basket and to diversify their market.
