Parts makers bewail auto roadmap delay

Auto parts manufacturers have warned the government that a further delay in the release of the proposed automotive roadmap will deter the entry of new vehicle assembly and parts production investments into the country, amid a market where imports are increasingly slashing the share of locally manufactured units.

Is there still hope for the auto manufacturing industry?

The Philippine automotive manufacturing industry was shaken to its very roots last June when Ford Group Philippines (FGP) suddenly announced the yearend shutdown of its assembly plant. But ironically enough, FGP chair Henry T. Co, who is retiring from FGP effective Dec. 31, 2012, is still hopeful that the auto manufacturing industry will somehow recover and resume its growth.
