AIR PHILIPPINES, the budget carrier of Lucio Tan, is offering tickets to select destinations for P1 each in a bid to grow its passenger base and grab a bigger share of the local travel market.

Air Philippines operates under the brand Airphil Express.

In a statement, Air Philippines said flights to routes where the company?s Airbus A320 jets are used would be sold at a discount, exclusive of taxes and surcharges, starting June 30 to Aug. 1.

The discounted tickets may only be used by passengers traveling from Oct. 1 up to Nov. 30, 2010, as well as between Jan. 16 and Feb. 28, 2011.

The one peso sale appears similar to the promotions usually offered by the group?s rival, Gokongwei-owned Cebu Pacific.

?We want the public to try and enjoy our new fleet and the new routes we fly to. We?re very proud of our overall experience in flight. Better comfort, efficient service and a renewed sense of adventure in flying somewhere new,? Air Philippines corporate communications manager Bettina de Vera said.

?With the P1 fares and no baggage fees up to 15 kilograms, Airphil Express indeed redefines the perception of a low cost carrier.?

Included in this price promotion are Airphil Express Jet routes out of Manila flying to Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legaspi, Puerto Princesa, Tagbilaran, and Zamboanga.

Using smaller plans, Air Philippines also flies to locations like Busuanga, Calbayog, Catarman, Masbate, Naga Surigao and Tuguegarao.

Air Philippines is an affiliate of flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL).
