MANILA, Philippines--Japan-based information technology and communications firm Fujitsu has unveiled plans to expand its presence in the Philippines after its $48-million acquisition of the Australia and Southeast Asia operations of Supply Chain Consulting Pty. Ltd., a SAP and Oracle enterprise solutions and service provider.

In a briefing Thursday, company officials expressed confidence in the in the local and international IT services market despite the ongoing global economic crisis.

“This confidence will be translated into a plan to build Supply Chain’s Manila site “into a center of excellence for the region in the enterprise resource planning (ERP) space,” an official said.

“Supply Chain Consulting is a leading global provider of enterprise and software solutions and this acquisition will further improve the services we are offering to our clients, especially in Manila,” Supply Chain Consulting Phils. director Raymond Lacdao said.

“The local office holds many opportunities with the booming Philippine IT industry and Manila will be the center of excellence for the region with regard to ERP software solutions,” he added.

The acquisition will result in expanded service offerings for Philippine clients, with Supply Chain Consulting’s expertise, reputation and capabilities supplemented by Fujitsu’s wider international reach.

The move is also expected to generate additional SAP software and services income for both companies, with consolidated IT, communications solutions and ERP products.

Fujitsu has reported $53 billion in consolidated revenue for 2008 and this deal will allow the firm to offer more services to clients, the company said.

Fujitsu’s Australia and New Zealand CEO Rod Vawdrey said the acquisition would extend the company’s investments in the SAP and Oracle segment. This, he said, would allow the company to offer several services and capabilities to its clients and provide it with the necessary scale to service larger enterprises.

“By combining Fujitsu and Supply Chain Consulting, we have one of the strongest portfolios of SAP and Oracle solutions, customers and capabilities and this will globally enhance Fujitsu’s expertise and offerings in this area,” he added.

Fujitsu’s SAP and Oracle consultants will be supplemented by offshore capabilities in the Philippines, providing additional global benefits to customers with offices, facilities and services located globally, he explained.
