MANILA, Philippines ? An open skies policy that frees up the country?s air routes to foreign carriers has yet to be adopted by the Aquino administration, a presidential spokesman told reporters on Friday.
?We?re not there yet?. The administration has not yet decided to adopt an open skies policy,? Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang told reporters at a news briefing in Malacaang.
Carandang said many issues were involved in the adoption of such a policy and the departments concerned had to make further studies before making any recommendation on the matter.
Carandang was reacting to a statement attributed to Philippine Airlines that the government should first address the issue of aviation infrastructure before opening up Philippine skies to foreign airlines.
President Benigno Aquino III raised the possibility of an open-skies policy if PAL continued to have problems with its labor force.
