MANILA, Philippines?Typhoon Santi (international codename: Mirinae) caused P159 million in agricultural losses, according to initial estimates from the Department of Agriculture.
Agriculture Undersecretary for Operations Jesus Emmanuel Paras said in a text message on Monday that P155 million worth of high-value crops, such as fruits, were lost, while P4 million worth of rice were destroyed.
The estimates were as of 5 p.m. on November 1, 2009.
The two cyclones that hit the country before Santi?storm Ondoy (international codename: Ketsana) and typhoon Pepeng (international codename: Parma)?caused more than P27 billion in agricultural damage, according to data from the National Disaster Coordinating Council or NDCC.
Pepeng caused P20.483 billion worth of agricultural damage and Ondoy, P6.67 billion.
