Reuters

NEW YORK — US stocks added to losses on Thursday, with the Dow industrials briefly falling more than two percent, as financial stocks sold off on renewed housing concerns triggered by a higher-than-expected drop in sales of existing US homes.

A drop of almost seven percent in Boeing's stock also dragged the Dow lower.

The Dow Jones industrial average lost 212.02 points, or 1.82 percent, at 11,420.36, while The Standard & Poor's 500 Index declined 21.35 points, or 1.67 percent, at 1,260.84. The Nasdaq Composite Index fell 28.98 points, or 1.25 percent, at 2,296.90.
