Amidst the lingering financial crisis, Philippine Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and its stakeholders will be assembled in ?Philippine Business Development Summit (PBDS) 2009? to challenge the impact of worldwide economic meltdown which can severely impair the performance of Filipino entrepreneurs.
The summit is scheduled from May 29-30, 2009, and to be held at Asian Institute of Management Conference Center Manila (ACCM), Makati City. Its theme ?Setting the Phase for Innovation and Enterpreneurship? is a timely and much-needed push for the SMEs to work together to remain at the top of business as they are vital component of country?s local economy.
According to Philippine League for Business Development (PHILBIDEV) Chairman John Yam, the conference will bring together the major players in small and business enterprises to plan their course of action specifically in expanding their market share despite the worst recession in decades.
The SMEs work along with business incubators since they both play a crucial role in nation?s business development. It is imperative for them to create an effective innovation clusters to strengthen the competitiveness of their products and services in the local and international markets.
PBDS 2009 aims to update and to upgrade the fundamental concerns of SMEs such as reviewing the national innovation policies existing in the Philippines; the role of business incubators and SMEs as key elements to promote innovation-driven enterprises; the innovation financing scheme; the private sector, donor and the national programs facilitating innovation promotion; the ICT-enabled mechanism to foster innovation and collaboration, and; presentation of initiatives aimed to support networking and cooperation in the area of innovation and technology transfer.
Leading the list of government dignitaries, Vice President Noli de Castro is will address the creation of an Innovative Economy through Business Incubation to boost the government support to the SME. Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) Senior Undersecretary Thomas Aquino will keynote on Setting the Phase for Innovation and Enterpreneurship.
Prominent personalities from the private sectors and experts will be joining in as resource speakers of the summit to share their knowledge and experience on the business they have already excelled. Among them are Mary Grace Arboleda-Young of Cordillera Coffee, Teodoro Ferrer of Generika Drugstore; Chef Robbie Goco of CYMA Restaurant; Florante Cruz- founder of BC Net, Inc.; and Mercedez Mejia of SLERS Industries.
