Various stakeholders in the information technology sector will go to Cebu, in the central Philippines, in June to discuss the impact of open source in the sector.
The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with other government and private sectors, will hold the Philippine Open Source Summit 2008 during Cebu Business Month.
The two-day summit aims to promote the development of an innovation ecosystem and the promotion of technology entrepreneurship.
Summit director Bonifacio Belen said the summit aimed to encourage entrepreneurship among IT professionals in the Philippines by using open source.
Belen said encouraging the use of open source software would help local IT professionals develop IT products from operating systems to software solutions, application tools and middleware software, he added.
This would enable them to tap the growing global market for IT products, Belen said. Edited by INQUIRER.net
