Resorts World Manila hosts the 1st Supercar Day and Fun Run

Resorts World Manila’s ultra-exclusive Genting Club hosted a very special breakfast and fun run event for exotic car owners and aficionados over the weekend that sent people drooling over their expensive supercars
The morning event had over 80 exotic and luxury cars on display at the open parking lot fronting Newport City Mall and where the mall’s visitors were also treated to a visual buffet of Italian, German, American, Japanese, British and French sports cars.
The participants of the fun run convoyed from Resorts World Manila’s Newport Terminal car park, took the SLEx in a hurry and came back after about an hour to park in their designated areas. Held in partnership with Foil A Car Manila, the event was dubbed as the first Annual GRrrr…Supercar Day.
Participants were pampered and treated to a sumptuous breakfast buffet at the Genting Club.

Tucked away inside Resorts World Manila is the prestigious Genting Club, a members-only lifestyle club that caters to Manila’s gaming elite. Aside from the private gaming rooms and tables, it houses a sports bar, cigar lounge, entertainment stage and spa room where the members can enjoy their gaming and entertainment activities in utmost privacy.
After breakfast, Korea’s electronic violinist J. Mi and YouTube sensation Bryson Andres from Iceland performed for the crowd as Cohiba Siglo VI cigars were being passed around like candies while car owners and members exchanged stories and pleasantries. The Genting Club’s main hall was a sea of men on bright red shirts, generously supplied by the event’s organizers with the event logo embroidered on La Coste sportshirts.

Joining the event were CATS Motors president Felix Ang, who came with his Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG “Gullwing” super car (CAT Motors is the official distributor for Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler, Dodge and JEEP brands), and PGA Chairman Robert Coyiuto Jr., with his very rare Porsche Carrera GT and a vanity plate flashing his initials. This Carrera GT is one of only 1,270 units built from 2004 to 2007. With him was his son Robert Coyiuto III. The younger Coyiuto is the managing director for Porsche Center Philippines and the president for Lamborghini Manila.
Across the parking lot was a kaleidoscope of colors, with each corner a section of the following brands: Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati represented the Italians; Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche held up the German faction; and the British were represented by a lone Rolls Royce Phantom and a lone Bentley Continental GT. There were a few American muscle cars—a Dodge Challenger, Corvette, Shelby Mustang and two Ford GT supercars. Two Japanese supercars were present—a rare Lexus LFA and a Nissan GT-R R35—while a Peugeot RCZ sports car represented the French Lion brand. Some more notable exotics included a very rare Porsche Sports Classic, introduced in the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show (one out of 250 made), and a vintage 1960s Porsche RSR, the new and RP’s first Lamborghini Aventador, and an Audi R8 GT with a special red chrome foil rendition by Foilacar Manila. The red chrome foil of the Audi is the first of its kind in Asia, and it represents the introduction of Foilacar’s chrome series.

Organized by Lester Codog, president of Foil A Car Manila, the Resorts World became the venue for the single largest gathering of supercars, with street value that totals hundreds of millions of pesos. Codog revealed that the Supercar Day is meant to promote the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) marketing slogan of “more fun in the Philippines.” “It was a picture-perfect moment to see a fleet of Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s driving up to Alabang and back here to celebrate this grand event. It is good that our friends supported us, which shows that supercar driving is definitely more fun in the Philippines,” he added. This Supercar Day is also a prelude to events that will be staged by Resorts World Manila starting this November to commemorate its Grand Fiesta 2012, kicking off with a Vintage Car Show on November 25 until December 1 at the Newport Plaza grounds. The Grand Fiesta 2012 is Resorts World Manila’s six-week celebration of the holiday season, the longest and grandest yuletide fete that features the best of what the Filipino can offer, to show significant support for the DOT’s “It’s more Fun in the Philippines” campaign.
